OK, After I Do That, What’s Next?

After you have completed the exercise I gave you in the last post to determine the primary constraint to increasing your rate of travel toward your immediate goal, you need to define the requirements of that goal in complete detail.

Try to decide what metrics or measurements will be used to tell when you have reached your desired outcome.  Examples might be number of new customers, number of new products, gross revenues, net profits, etc.  Some useful items seen in past engagements are revenue per employee and profit per employee.  These are easy to establish if you project a large percentage increase from your current position.

In other words if you have $1 million in revenues with 100 people on board, you gross $10,000 per employee today.

With a 50% increase as your target, you will need fewer people or $1.5 Million in gross revenue (or some combination of these 2 inputs).

This series of steps probably will be even more difficult than determining the primary constraint because it involves much more of the unknown.  If you feel you know where your best available opportunity for growth is, define detailed, timed plans to move in that direction and implement them immediately.  If you have some uncertainty that you have considered all the variables, including those items you may be unaware of, call us for assistance.  This will minimize the number and costs of false starts and the frustrations and negative feelings that result from them.
